Ati-Atihan Festival

(above photo is not mine) Around this time in the town Kalibo, Aklan in the Philippines, they are assembling the most elaborate traditional costumes, sets and music for the Ati-Atihan Festival. This weekend we will be getting ready for Music Neighbour Vol. 2- my own personal, Toronto version of Ati-Atihan.

This time last year I had sand in between my toes on the shores of the Philippines. I visited the monks on the island of Guimaras and got lost in mango reveries, and experienced the pyrotechnic energy of the Kalibo Festival. Re-visiting my island roots last year gave me a lot of momentum and confirmation of why I do what I do. I crave it once again.......
